Skills Session

A new component in this year's SummerFest is a morning of highly-informative skills sessions. Whether you are an undergraduate considering doing a PhD; a newly-started PhD; a finishing PhD wondering what to do next; or an early career researcher or established researcher interested in maximising your chances of success in grant applications, you'll find something in these sessions for you.

The Skills Sessions will run on the morning of Wednesday 3rd December. The current list of planned topics is as follows:

  • Enrolling in a PhD Program - Presenter: Mark Wiggins (Macquarie University)
  • How to Write a Thesis - Presenter: Michael Maher (National ICT Australia and University of NSW)
  • How to Manage Your Supervisor - Presenter: Lyndsey Nickels (MACCS, Macquarie University)
  • Life as a PhD Student - Presenters: Jette Viethen (Macquarie University); Mary Broughton (UWS); Pawel Mazur (Macquarie University)
  • Time Management - Presenter: Robert Dale (Macquarie University)
  • Giving Presentations - Presenter: Mark Dras (Macquarie Unniversity) and Rick van der Zwan (Southern Cross University)
  • How to Publish a Paper - Presenter: Joe Wolfe (UNSW)
  • How to Get a PostDoc - Presenter: Ruth Campbell (UCL); David Alais (University of Sydney)
  • Writing Grant Proposals and Rejoinders - Presenters: Anina Rich (Macquarie University) and Peter Wenderoth (Macquarie University)
