Language without meaning serves no purpose. This makes study of semantics seminal. Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing (NSP) and cognitive sciences have taken our understanding in this area to new level but they operate independently and unification has been a issue. Ontology and lexicon based approaches have their limitation. Can we learn from complex models used in data retrieval or data management in cyberspace. Can we learn from complex models used in data retrieval or data management in cyberspace? There is ongoing debate as to how concepts/knowledge is stored in our brain; clinical population has not given a clear verdict. Are there parallel and/or distributed processes operating in this complex task or is one more dominant depending on the process targeted. I am working on General Purpose Semantic Model, an attempt to unify various theories and providing an interface between various disciplines and models. It endeavours to deal not only with acquisition of word sense but processing of word sense. I will share my current thoughts and suggest some applications.
